Examples of Custom Designs

Victorian Polonaise

As a designer and lover of period novels I finally had the chance to live out a fantasy of what it was like to live in the fashion of the time. All patterns are historically accurate and includes chemise, corset, bustle, petticoat, skirt, polonaise and bonnet. Take a look at the journey!

I had so much fun with this project that I wanted my customers to see the process and understand what goes into making a garment like this. Thank you so much for the wonderful patterns from trulyvictorian.info (polonaise, corset and bustle) and pineappleandbee.com (bonnet)!

Corset and Chemise

I chose to have fun with the print on the corset since it would be hidden.

Bustle and skirt

Polonaise

The fabric I chose is not indicative of the bustle era but I loved the color and wanted a large print. I have always loved the challenge of matching prints to have a seamless look. A lot of hand stitching with the seam allowances, buttonholes and trim but I LOVE hand stitching!

Bonnet

I had some leftover brown silk satin to use for the bonnet. Turned out perfectly! This was completely hand sewn and the most awkward project I’ve ever done. My fingers were covered with pin and needle pricks and I was very happy to be done with it! No desire to explore millinery arts after this!

Christening Gown

I received a request from a family member to have "something" made from her mother's wedding gown.  Even though there are no great-grandchildren yet, I decided to make them a christening gown.  The design I made has a removable lace pinafore so that it can be used for a boy or a girl.  I added a touch of hand embroidery on the collar.  I used the satin, lace and even the satin covered buttons from the back of the dress.
